The old National Aniline factory produced hundreds of products, but most were coloring dyes. Many of the raw materials were hazardous materials, but once reacted, they were safe to transport, and use. One of ingredients was sodium metal.

When sodium metal and poisonous chlorine gas come together, a violent reaction produces sodium chloride. It is remarkable that such a nonhazardous salt is produced from two extremely dangerous elements.
